How to sign the Harmony governor agreement
A practical walkthrough for validators: get the right wallet ready, put a little ETH on Base, read what you are being asked to sign, and keep a paper trail.
Start with the document, not the wallet button
This is not just a technical migration step. The proposed agreement talks about the governor role, compensation, and a release of claims. Read the whole thing. Save a dated PDF or screenshot. If you are uneasy about the release, arbitration language, or class-action language, talk to your own lawyer before you sign.
Use a link from a Harmony announcement you trust. Browse Harmony’s governor-agreement directory rather than using somebody else’s agreement URL. The Harmony agreement is hosted in MetaLeX CyberSign on Base (chain ID 8453). Links and contracts can change, so check them again before you connect.
1. Use the Ethereum address that matches your Harmony wallet
Your Harmony one1… address and Ethereum 0x… address are two formats for the same account. Harmony’s plan says the matching Ethereum address is what matters. A brand-new Ethereum wallet will not automatically receive what belongs to your existing Harmony account.
Import the existing account into a reputable wallet on a computer you trust. Do any keystore export or decryption locally. Then check that the resulting 0x… address is the expected match before going further.
2. Put a little ETH on Base
MetaLeX is using Base, not Ethereum mainnet. ETH on mainnet cannot pay a Base fee, even though the address is the same. Switch your wallet to Base mainnet (chain ID 8453) and make sure you still have the matching imported account selected.
Send a small amount of ETH on Base to that exact address. If you use Coinbase, withdraw ETH directly to the address and choose Base as the network. If the ETH is already in your own Ethereum wallet, Base points to Superbridge and Brid.gg for the Ethereum-to-Base route. Look at the Ethereum gas quote first.
A small test transfer is worth the minute it takes. Check the address, asset, and network before sending. ETH sent on Ethereum mainnet will not show up as gas on Base.
3. Slow down at the signing screen
Open the verified link and connect only the matching account. The wallet should say Base, and it should show your expected 0x… address. “Not enough ETH” usually means you are looking at ETH on mainnet or on an exchange, not ETH in that account on Base.
Read the wallet preview. Robovalidator’s prompt was a contract call named redeemDelegations, not a simple off-chain signature. That may be expected, but a friendly name is not proof that a transaction does what the written agreement says.
- Make sure the contract and function match the materials you were given.
- Stop immediately if anyone asks for your recovery phrase or private key.
- Stop if you see an unexpected transfer, swap, “set approval for all,” unlimited allowance, or a new recipient address.
- If you cannot explain the request in plain English, do not approve it. Get a written explanation first.
4. Keep your receipts
After you sign, save the Base transaction hash, timestamp, wallet address, contract address, final agreement PDF, and a screenshot of the confirmation. Look up the transaction on a Base explorer. Keep it with your Harmony snapshot and reward records.
Signing does not by itself prove a future airdrop, vault balance, compensation payment, exchange listing, or tax treatment. When something is distributed, record what it was worth in USD and when you received it.
